Here at Too Good Strategy, we have worked with It’s Time Texas for some time now. Their new initiative, Healthy Texas Week begins this Monday! April 4-13 marks a week dedicated to celebrating healthy living. Throughout the week, participants are encouraged to move more, eat better and live well. All ages and activity levels are encouraged to participate. Texas mayors have signed up and are encouraging their cities to get healthy. The celebration is part of It’s Time Texas’ overall goal to make healthy the new normal in Texas.

ImageReady to join? Registration is easy on the Healthy Texas Week website. Once you provide your personal information, you can promote your commitment via the online toolkit and downloadable posters. Next, grow the program by inspiring others to join with you and focus on a healthy lifestyle. You can promote via Facebook, Twitter, or other social media.

It’s been proven that joining a social group, such as Healthy Texas Week, increases success in maintaining a healthy life. According to a study by the American Psychological Association, participants who enrolled in a weight-loss program with friends did a better job of keeping the weight off in the long run compared to those who embarked on their own.

Not only does a social network keep you motivated, it also helps keep you accountable on those days you need an extra push to hit the gym or choose a healthy snack. If you don’t have anyone to talk to, keeping a simple food and exercise journal can help.

Research also shows that the “friendly competition” aspect of social tools and healthy lifestyles is motivating. This is especially true for active kids.

After Healthy Texas Week is over, don’t let your habits die! Continue what you start and lead a healthier life.

We are working with It’s Time Texas to develop a first of its kind app that will feature local healthy resources that will help you stay on track. It is set to launch in Fall 2014. Stay tuned!
